Village Shop Closure

Closure of the Village Shop at Beech Hill Friday 30th November 2018 As you know, Simone Owens recently returned to manage the shop after taking some time off. Last weekend, she contacted the committee to say that unfortunately she needs to reconsider her priorities and has decided to step down as Manager, with immediate effect. This is a blow as you can imagine, and given the financial situation of the shop, the committee has come to the very tough decision to close the shop down. We expect to remain open through till the week before Christmas, at our current hours. We are always looking for help so if you have some spare hours please let us know. Naturally we will be offering some great discounts on stock. From Monday 3rd December most items in the shop will be offered at the discount price of 20% off, so come on down and bag a pre-Christmas bargain. On the overall situation, obviously we are sad to be closing the shop after 5 years. While footfall and average spend have been falling in recent times, costs have continued to rise, and new and revitalised local shops such as Budgens, One Stop and the Wellington Farm Shop all offer attractive alternatives to our local shopping base, not to mention the growth in home delivery from large supermarkets. The vision Sam Moore had for a community hub has been kept going as long as possible with the help and backing available in a very small village. The only shame would have been not to try this venture. A formal note to Shop Shareholders from the Chairman is in preparations and will be sent over the weekend.
